The hardest thing for me with learning to write has been learning the process. There are a lot of other difficulties along the way but figuring out my process is the thing that is not instinctual and doesn’t come natural. It’s harder than the writing itself because it enables the writing. It opens the doors and clears the space.
I think one of the most important things any artist or writer can do is to show up to the appointment -- to create the space in which something can happen and to be there and active regularly. How it gets shaped is secondary.
